It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
