The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been rampant.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we get some incredible reveals, some fascinating origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people make a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on October 29.
