Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
